Activity Dependencies

Activities created in Crews by Core can also include Activity Dependencies.

To view and add Dependencies, make sure the “Predecessor” column is active on your Lookahead. If you do not see the “Predecessor” column, click the “Columns” button at the top of your Lookahead and select “Predecessor.”

Once the Predecessor column is accessible, add your Activity Dependencies by double clicking on the empty Predecessor field.

You’ll notice that each Activity has a Row Number. This is simply the Activity’s chronological number on your Activity List and is different from the Activity’s Unique ID. You will use an Activity’s Row # to create Dependencies.

Example: If Activity #2 depends on the completion of Activity #1, double click on the Predecessor field of Activity #2 and type in the number 1. This marks Activity #2 as dependent on Activity #1.

You can add more information about the Activity Dependencies by specifying whether it is a Finish-to-Start or a Start-to-Start dependency.

Going forward these specifications will be referred to as:

  • FS: Finish to Start
  • SS: Start to Start

FS: If Activity #1 must be completed before Activity #2 can start, double click on the Predecessor field of Activity #2 and type the number 1. Unless otherwise specified, the standard dependency is a finish start.

SS: If an Activity can start while another Activity is in progress, use an SS dependency. Ie if Activity # 2 can start 3 days after Activity #1 starts, click the predecessor column and type 1SS+3.

You can continue to add and edit dependencies in the Activity List as needed. Once you create a dependency using the Activity List, the dependency will also appear in the Activity Info. Edit the Activity Dependency information using the same formula you would use in the column.

Once a dependency is created, it will be reflected in your Lookahead and Gantt view. In Gantt View, a line will appear and connect the two dependent Activities.
